Dr. Farouk Kamoun's academic journey began with an engineering degree from École Supérieure d'Électricité (Supélec) in France, followed by a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA. During his time at UCLA, he contributed to the ARPANET project, laying the groundwork for the modern Internet, focusing on designing large computer communication networks.
Currently, Dr. Farouk Kamoun holds the position of Professor Emeritus at the National School of Computer Science (ENSI) at the University of Manouba, Tunisia. He is also a senior member of the CRISTAL research laboratory and serves as a scientific advisor to Sesame University..
Dr. Farouk Kamoun's professional journey extends beyond academia, as he has held various leadership roles in different institutions. Notably, he served as the head of the IT department at the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis and Chairman of the Board and CEO of the National Center for Informatics (CNI). He also held positions such as Dean of the National School of Computer Science, University of Manouba, Director of the CRISTAL research Lab, and President of the Board and Dean of Sesame University.
His expertise extends to policy and strategy in the ICT, education, digital transformation, and Science, Technology, and Innovation sectors. He is recognized as an international expert and has served as the president of the Tunisian Internet Governance Forum. Furthermore, he is a co-founder and president of the Tunisian Association for Research and Innovation in Networks (TRINET). Dr. Farouk Kamoun's diverse experience and leadership roles underscore his significant impact in academia, research, and policy-making in Tunisia and beyond.
