Dr. João M. Fernandes has established himself as a distinguished academic with a comprehensive educational background and extensive professional experience. He holds a Ph.D. in Informatics/Computer Engineering, an MSc in Informatics/Computing Science, and a Licenciatura (5-year degree) in Systems and Informatics Engineering, all from UMinho.
Since December 2011, Dr. Fernandes has held the position of Full Professor with tenure at UMinho. His academic journey has been enriched by various previous positions, including roles as a Visiting Professor in institutions such as Instituto Superior Técnico Militar in Luanda, Angola, Universitatea Tehnică Gheorghe Asachi in Iaşi, Romania, and Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in Florianópolis, Brazil.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Fernandes served as a Post-doctoral Researcher at TUCS in Turku, Finland, and held teaching and assistant roles at UMinho. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a diverse range of expertise, focusing primarily on Software Engineering, while also exploring other scientific interests such as Embedded Computing, Systems Modeling, and Engineering Education.
